Prison Minister Wants Lindsay Lohan to Find Jesus
By Tina Molly Lang, Yahoo! Contributor Network - February 15, 2011
Prison minister Marty Angelo has been reaching out to Lindsay Lohan and hoping that she will find Jesus.
Marty Angelo worked in the entertainment business for fifteen years and struggled with many of the pitfalls of the industry, including getting arrested for cocaine possession. He claims to have found Jesus while he was in prison.
Lindsay's father, Michael Lohan, had contacted Angelo in hopes that he would be able to get through to his troubled daughter.
Former child star Lindsay Lohan has a record of DUIs, drug charges, and most recently, a charge of felony grand theft.
In a letter to Lindsay Lohan (posted by The Christian Post) Marty Angelo writes, "Lindsay, I am speaking to you today as not just a prison minister and friend of your father but as a person who has traveled down the same road you are on. I know what works and through God's grace, mercy and love have been straight for 30 years."
The prison minister believes that a faith-based rehabilitation program may be the key to the former child star's recovery. "I'm talking about a program that can change her life. Not a secular 30-day program that she's gone in that just takes her money and she comes out the same way she went in," said Angelo. "Maybe it cleaned her for a little while but then of course the temptation is still there."
Lohan's mother, Dina, is bringing God into the equation as well. Yesterday, Lindsay Lohan appeared in court after breaking probation. When the judged revoked her probation and a $40,000 bail, Dina replied that it was "all good. God has a big plan for Lindsay."
A number of high-profile figures have become born-again Christians after dealing with numerous personal struggles.
In the 90s, Gary Busey survived cancer surgery, drug addiction, and a serious motorcycle accident before becoming a born-again Christian.
In politics, former presidents Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush have spoken publicly about their religious faith. Bush famously credited prayer for helping him overcome alcoholism. "I had a drinking problem. Right now I should be in a bar in Texas, not the Oval Office. There is only one reason that I am in the Oval Office and not in a bar. I found faith. I found God. I am here because of the power of prayer."
Does Lindsay Lohan need a stiff prison sentence, another trip to rehab, or should she pull a Kirk Cameron and find Jesus?
