01/14/08
Roger Avary, the Oscar-winning screenwriter, got arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence. The report states that during a car crash, which took place yesterday in Ojai, California, a man was killed and Avary's wife got injured, authorities said.
Killed in the accident was Andreas Zini, 34, a resident of Italy who was apparently visiting the couple. Firefighters cut Zini from the car with Jaws of Life, and he died several hours later at Ventura County Medical Center.
Avary's wife Gretchen, 40, was ejected from the car and found in the road by deputies, Bonfiglio said.
Avary was taken into custody and was subsequently released on a $50,000 bail, according to Capt. Ross Bonfiglio of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
By the way, Roger Avary shared an Oscar with co-writer and director Quentin Tarantino for penning the script for the movie Pulp Fiction. Avary co-wrote the story for the recent CG epic Beowulf and was also to work on an adaptation of id's shooter series Wolfenstein - production on that one has been put on hold thanks to the Writer's Guild Of America strike, which is still in progress.
