Prisoners' Families

For Families with Loved Ones in Prison

Prison Fellowship partners with churches across the United States—and around the world—to share the love of Christ and serve the special needs of prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families, including the children. We know that prison is a tough time both for those who are confined and for their loved ones left at home to deal with loneliness, social rejection, financial strains, and other pressures. We hope to provide you with helpful information and the assurance that you do not have to face this time alone.

  Angel Tree
Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree ministry—which serves the children of prisoners—includes Angel Tree Christmas, Angel Tree Camping, and Angel Tree Mentoring. In early fall, incarcerated dads and moms can sign up to have church volunteers deliver gifts to their children at Christmas (volunteers contact the at-home parent or caregiver to make sure that’s O.K.). The Christmas gifts are presented as being from the mom or dad in prison—assuring the children that they haven’t been forgotten! The parent in prison is the one who has to sign the children up, so if you’d like your kids to receive gifts delivered by caring volunteers, encourage your incarcerated loved one to contact the prison chaplain about Angel Tree.

Through Angel Tree Camping, prisoners’ children have an opportunity to attend one of many summer camps that combine fun and adventurous activities with Bible teaching. Costs are covered by participating churches and a special scholarship fund.

Angel Tree Mentoring, our newest Angel Tree program, matches a child or teen with a caring Christian adult in an ongoing one-to-one relationship.

  Pen Pal Program
Through Prison Fellowship’s Pen Pal Program, prisoners can ask for someone on the “outside” to write to them regularly. Prison Fellowship will match each prisoner with a Christian volunteer who has expressed a desire to develop a friendship-by-mail with someone in prison. The volunteer offers encouragement and emotional/spiritual support, but cannot help with financial or legal needs.

If your loved one in prison would like to correspond with a caring pen pal, encourage him or her to write to Prison Fellowship, Pen Pal Program, P.O. Box 2205, Ashburn, VA 20146.
