Dear Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton to Larry King (6/27/07)

"I want to help set up a place where these women can get themselves back on their feet. A place with food, shelter and clothing and programs, kind of a transitional home. I know I can make a difference and hopefully stop this vicious circle of these people going in and out of jail." (see complete transcript)

Dear Paris,

I hope you remember me. I am the minister who petitioned Honorable Judge Michael Sauer to allow me to serve your jail sentence if he would instead send you to a faith-based residential treatment center. I also sent you my book, “Once Life Matters: A New Beginning.” You acknowledged my efforts with a very thoughtful handwritten thank-you letter and beautiful autographed photograph.

The reason I am writing to you today is I know someone I feel can help you bring your vision of building a residential facility for women coming out of jail. Her name is Ivory Stone, founder and director of Cornerstone Worx, an outreach of 14 years serving women in trouble by way of counsel and support. Ms. Stone has a similar vision you described when Larry King interviewed you.  (see statement below)

I recently spoke at a fund-raising luncheon banquet for Cornerstone Worx. During this event, Ms. Stone had 35 women in attendance from the California branch of the Walter Hoving Home,  a faith-based residential treatment program. Some of these women were ex-prisoners from Lynwood Jail. Stone’s ministry has worked with these types of women for many years.

During the luncheon, Ms. Stone described her new goals for Cornerstone Worxsome. They include, “‘extending our territory’ by implementing better resources, such as aid, scholarships, education, and housing for women coming out of jails and rehabs.”

I know this is part of the vision God gave you while you were incarcerated at Lynwood. You mentioned you wanted to build a facility to house less-fortunate women so they will not have to continuously return to jail. Over my 26 years in this line of ministry, I discovered few have a burden for this type of outreach. It takes special people. I know Ivory Stone and Paris Hilton are two of them.

Please contact Ms. Stone at xxx-xxx-xxxx to further discuss how you can bring your visions together. I know we were not just thrown together by chance. God called us. Let us work in one accord so we can make help stop the revolving prison door for thousands of women.

May God continue to richly bless you.

KING: Want to read another note?

HILTON: Yes. This I wrote -- this is about the girls that are in there (Lynwood Jail). "I have compassion for those I left behind at the prison. I am lucky enough that I have a home and a family to go to when I get out of here. Most of the women in here don't have that option. They have to go back on the streets and some of them end up even back here because they don't know where else to go.

"I want to help set up a place where these women can get themselves back on their feet. A place with food, shelter and clothing and programs, kind of a transitional home. I know I can make a difference and hopefully stop this vicious circle of these people going in and out of jail."

Because they told me the average amount for a woman going in there, into Lynwood is 7.3 times. So literally women just go out on the street, they have nowhere to go and then they end up right back in there. I just feel like it's a vicious circle. Some of these people are mothers and then their children end up in the system and it's just -- really, it's sad.
