Actress Mischa Barton was arrested early this morning on suspicion of drunk driving after she was seen driving erratically in West Hollywood, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said today.
The 21-year-old former star of the television show "The O.C." was pulled over in the 900 block of North La Cienega Boulevard at 2:46 a.m. after Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies spotted the car she was driving straddling two traffic lanes, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. John Hocking. Deputies said she also failed to signal while making a turn.
After failing a field sobriety test, Barton was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor drunk driving. Deputies also determined that she was an unlicensed driver, Hocking said.
Barton was booked into the sheriff's West Hollywood station at 3:10 a.m. and was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Her arrest caps a year in which young Hollywood was in the news for drunk driving cases. Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton all served jail time in drunk-driving-related cases.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Mischa Barton has pleaded no contest to drunken driving for a December arrest in West Hollywood.
The former star of TV's "The O.C." wasn't present in a Beverly Hills courtroom Thursday as her lawyer entered no-contest pleas on her behalf to misdemeanor driving under the influence and driving without a license.
The 22-year-old actress was arrested Dec. 27 after sheriff's deputies saw her car straddling lanes and failing to signal for a turn.
Lawyer Anthony Salerno says Barton will be fined, placed on three years' probation and must attend an alcohol education program.
Salerno says Barton assumes full responsibility for her actions

Mischa Barton - Actress facing 4 misdemeanors

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Mischa Barton, who on "The O.C." played a wealthy teenager in idyllic Orange County, got a dose of reality Tuesday when she was charged with four misdemeanors related to a drinking and driving arrest last year.
The former star of "The O.C." was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving while having a 0.08 percent or higher blood alcohol level, driving without a valid license and possession of 28.5 grams or less of marijuana, according to court papers.
In a statement, Barton attorney Anthony V. Salerno said he was pleased his client was only charged with misdemeanors.
"The D.A.'s office is to be commended for treating this case the same as it would any other matter; Ms. Barton has received no special treatment," Salerno said.
Barton was arrested Dec. 27 in West Hollywood after sheriff's deputies saw her car straddling two lanes of traffic and failing to signal for a turn.
Barton played Marissa Cooper on "The O.C." from 2003 to 2006, when her character died in a car crash. She also has appeared in several movies, including "The Sixth Sense" and the upcoming "Virgin Territory."
In May, Barton was hospitalized for two hours after an antibiotic she was taking interacted badly with alcohol.
Barton was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in Beverly Hills Superior Court.

Mischa Barton hospitalized, her rep confirms

On Wednesday, police were called to the home of Mischa Barton, co-star of the upcoming CW series "The Beautiful Life: TBL."
"Shortly after 3 p.m., a police unit responded to the home of Mischa Barton for a medical issue, which the Police Department is currently helping her with. No one was arrested," said Det. Gus Villanueva of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Access Hollywood broke the story today. Sources familiar with the situation said that after the police went to Barton's house, she was brought to a West L.A. area station to be evaluated.
Her representative, Craig Schneider, issued a statement: "Ms. Barton was safely transferred to medical treatment for which she remains hospitalized, as per the recommendation of her doctor."
Barton became famous for her role on the Fox teen soap "The O.C.," on which she played the erratic Marissa Cooper. This incident is not her first encounter with the police: In December 2007, she was arrested for drunk driving and possession of marijuana. (She later pleaded no contest.)
"The Beautiful Life" is to begin filming in New York City next week, and Barton is scheduled to move there. According to a source at CBS Television Studios, the show's production has not yet been disrupted. Barton has been cast as an aging -- the actress is 23 -- model.
In an e-mail, Schneider wrote that Barton's work on the CW show "will ultimately be contingent upon her progress and doctor's orders."
