Mel Gibson - Son 'goes to rehab alone'
Friday, November 2, 2007
Mel Gibson's son, Edward, has reportedly cut ties with his father and family and has checked himself into rehab, US publication the National Enquirer claims.
Edward Gibson, a twin and one of seven siblings, reportedly entered California's Cri-Help clinic in late September to fight addictions to cocaine and alcohol.
The publication alleges Edward has asked staff at the facility to keep visitors away.
A source claims: 'He's very self-conscious and finds it difficult to speak about his background, which is thwarting his recovery.'
The insider alleges the 25-year-old doesn't want 'any distractions.'
'He told a pal, “I know my dad loves me, but this is something I have to do by myself for myself. My dad is just going to have to chill.”'
'He doesn't want to be written off as just another kid of a celebrity who spun out on drugs' a source is reported saying.
Father Mel, star of Braveheart and The Passion of the Christ, was himself arrested last year for drink-driving, subsequently issuing an apology for an anti- anti-semitic rant he made at the time of arrest.
