Leigh Steinberg - 'Jerry Maguire' agent arrested for drunk driving
LOS ANGELES, April 13 (Reuters) - Famed U.S. sports agent Leigh Steinberg was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on Friday after crashing his luxury sport utility vehicle into three parked cars.
Steinberg, often said to be the inspiration for the film "Jerry Maguire," was taken into custody in Newport Beach, south of Los Angeles, after the crash at about 1 a.m. Pacific time (4 a.m. EST/0800 GMT).
Steinberg's clients have included football quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger, Warren Moon, Troy Aikman and Steve Young, as well as boxers Lennox Lewis and Oscar De La Hoya.
There were no reports of injury in the crash, which caused major damage to Steinberg's 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML 500 sports utility vehicle.
The three parked cars had moderate damage, according to police, who released Steinberg on his own recognizance after he was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Steinberg, 58, could not be reached for comment.
In 1996, Steinberg was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and placed on informal probation after pleading guilty to driving under the influence.
