Prison Minister Marty Angelo first step foot in Kentucky federal prison 30 years ago on drug charges

Hollywood, February 15, 2011 - His arrest came as a "shock" according to prison minister Marty Angelo in his book, "Once Life Matters." "This is not something I planned on." Angelo states. "Didn't the police know I am in the entertainment business and getting arrested is not suppose to happen?" 

However, it is exactly what happened to Marty Angelo 30 years ago when he was found in possession of four ounces of cocaine in his pocket in Miami Florida.

His drug arrest actually wound up saving Angelo's life and brought about what his calls in his book, "an electrifying Christian spiritual experience." 

Angelo was ultimately sent to the Federal Correctional Institute in Lexington Kentucky (now called the Federal Medical Facility) back in 1981 to begin serving a six-year prison sentence. 

Angelo returns to that prison on Sunday Feb. 27th to speak to the inmate population on how God changed his life just prior to prison and what has happened during the last 30 years.

"My message is one of hope," Angelo recently told television host Pastor Dan Willis during a recent interview. "Everyone has prison moments. One does not have to be locked up behind bars to understand what prisons we humans put ourselves in when we make wrong decisions. 

God has a different plan and purpose for us and we need to take advantage of the consequences that come our way because of our bad behavior. God offers us all a 'second chance' if we turn to Jesus Christ for help."

The majority of prisons and jails in the United States are filled with people who are there because of drug or alcohol related crimes. 

"I tried to fill the void in my life with everything the world has to offer." Angelo continued. "It wasn't until my back was against the wall and facing a life behind prison walls when I finally woke up and cried out to Jesus to save me. And He continues to do that to anyone willing to turn to Him in faith."
