John Goodman - Actor Completes Rehab Treatment
October 19, 2007
Actor John Goodman has said that he has received treatment for alcoholism at a rehabilitation clinic in the US.
The former star of sitcom Roseanne said in a statement that he "voluntarily took the necessary steps to remain sober for the rest of my life".
It is unclear how long the 55-year-old was treated for, or when he was discharged from the facility.
Goodman won an Emmy award earlier this year for a guest role in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
He played Judge Robert Bebe in two episodes of the show.
TV viewers also saw him appearing as Dan Conner opposite Roseanne Barr in the hit sitcom Roseanne, which ran from 1988 to 1997.
Goodman was nominated for an Emmy on seven occasions, but failed to win. However, he picked up a Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy series in 1993 for his work on the show.
His cinema credits have included The Big Lebowski, The Flintstones and The Babe.

There was no head shaving, car chases or other paparazzi-documented misdeeds. Instead, John Goodman decided to get sober on his terms—away from prying eyes.
The former Roseanne star managed to keep his rehab so low profile no one knew he was even in treatment until he announced his successful completion of the program.
"For my family and myself, I voluntarily took the necessary steps to remain sober the rest of my life," the 55-year-old actor said in a statement issued by his publicist, Stan Rosenfield.
According to reports, Goodman was treated at Promises Malibu for an undisclosed addiction. Also unknown is when the Big Lebowski star was admitted or released from the facility or what was the exact length of his stay.
Earlier this year, Goodman completed production on a pair of new films, the detective drama In the Electric Mist, with Tommy Lee Jones and Peter Sarsgaard, and the Wachowski brothers' Speed Racer.
Last month, he collected his first Emmy for a guest role as a rural judge on NBC's canceled Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
Next up, the actor will provide the voice of Paul Bunyan in the animated flick Bunyan and Babe, with Eddie Griffin providing the voice of the blue ox. In the meantime, Goodman's vocal prowess will next be put on show in Jerry Seinfeld's Bee Movie, due out Nov. 2.
