Heather Locklear - Troubled Actress arrested in Calif. on DUI count
09/28/08
MONTECITO, Calif. (AP) — Heather Locklear was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance in the upscale Santa Barbara area, authorities said Sunday.
Locklear, 47, was pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer Saturday afternoon after a resident reported seeing the actress leaving a parking lot and "driving erratically," patrol spokesman Tom Marshall said.
The officer noticed Locklear's car parked on a state highway and blocking a lane in Montecito, a wealthy community about 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles. She was believed to be alone in the car, Marshall said.
"In talking with her, (the officer) determines that she seems to be under the influence of something," Marshall said.
Locklear was taken to the police station, where she was tested for alcohol and drugs. She was booked at 7 p.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication. She was later released from custody.
Calls to Locklear's publicists were not immediately returned.

Heather Locklear DUI Dismissed Pleads No Contest To Lesser
Charge
01/02/09
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actress Heather Locklear pleaded no contest on Friday to a reduced charge of reckless driving in a plea deal stemming from her arrest in September on charges of driving under the influence of prescription drugs.
Santa Barbara Assistant District Attorney Lee Carter said Locklear, 47, was sentenced to three years informal probation and a maximum fine of $900. She also must attend a drivers education program.
Carter said the former star of the television shows "Melrose Place" and "Dynasty" did not appear in court in Santa Barbara. The plea was entered by her lawyer on Friday. Under California law, "no contest" is the equivalent of a guilty plea.
Locklear was arrested in September in the celebrity enclave of Montecito, near the coastal town of Santa Barbara, when police found her car parked on a highway blocking a traffic lane.
Tests showed she had prescription medication in her system but no alcohol or drugs. She was originally charged with driving under the influence.
The actress had checked into an Arizona medical facility in June for treatment for anxiety and depression.
