Rep. Harold Dutton of Houston Arrested for Drunk Driving

AUSTIN -- In a story First on FOX, Houston Democrat Rep. Harold Dutton, a veteran
Texas lawmaker, was arrested late Wednesday night and charged with
driving while intoxicated, Austin police said.

Dutton, who was pulled over in downtown Austin for speeding, was released from a Travis County Jail early Thursday morning on personal recognizance, according to a jail spokesman.

Dutton, 62, refused breath and blood tests, said Cpl. Derek Israel, a spokesman for the Austin Police Department.

Dutton, a Houston attorney, serves as chairman of the House Juvenile Justice and Family Issues Committee. Lawmakers are in the capital city for the 140-day legislative session, which ends May 28.

Driving while intoxicated is punishable by up to 180 days in jail.

Calls to Dutton's office Friday were unanswered.
