"Disco Daze" - Marty Angelo - 2005
CBS TV "Sunday Mornings" looks back on disco in February of 2005 at the opening of the Experience Music Project's "Disco: A Decade of Saturday Nights" exhibit opening at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Marty Angelo provided advice and video clips from his Disco Step-by-Step dance television show for use in this production.
"Disco: A Decade of Saturday Nights" included more than 200 artifacts from the disco era, as well as a dozen video monitors showing a percussive stream of vintage images, classic footage (such as Marty Angelo's "Disco Step-by-Step," the first television show dedicated to disco music, dance and hustle dance instruction), and filmed interviews with disco pioneers; listening stations and kiosks holding a wealth of songs (from early house party music to the funk of "Soul Makossa" to the homogenized BeeGees megahits to Ethel Merman getting a case of disco fever); and an interactive DJ booth at which visitors may create their own dance mixes.
The disco exhibit was first featured in Seattle Washington from November 23 - May 26, 2002 at EMP's museum and from June 15 - September 15, 2004 in Dearborn Michigan at the Henry Ford
Museum and from February 1 through May 14, 2005 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
