David Hasselhoff - Actor admits battling alcoholism

Simon Crerar - Times Online - May 4, 2007

Baywatch actor David Hasselhoff has admitted battling alcoholism after a video showing him drunk was shown on US television.

Allegedly shot three months ago by Hasselhoff's 16-year-old daughter Taylor, the video shows the Celebrity Big Brother star apparently intoxicated in a Las Vegas hotel room, where he is currently starring in hit musical The Producers.

Hasselhoff, 54, is shown stripped to the waist, lying on his side on the floor eating a cheeseburger. His words are slurred.

In the video, an unseen voice believed to be Taylor begs her father to stop drinking saying, "Dad, look what this is doing to you. You have to stop drinking alcohol, promise me you won't drink anymore."

The voice goes on to warn the actor he could be fired from his role if he doesn't sober up.

"If you get alcohol tonight you're fired from your show tomorrow. And a doctor's coming over here in the morning to check your alcohol level and if there's any alcohol in your system you're gonna be fired from the show. Tomorrow. You hear me? No alcohol."

"Ok," Hasselhoff replies in a slurred voice.

In a statement released last night, Hasselhoff admitted problems with alcoholism.

"I am a recovering alcoholic. Despite that I have been going through a painful divorce and I have recently been separated from my children due to my work, I have been successfully dealing with my issue. Unfortunately, one evening I did have a brief relapse, but part of recovery is relapse.

The actor said his daughters from his 16-year marriage to actress Pamela Bach made the tape to show him what he was like when drunk.

"Because of my honest and positive relationship with my daughters who were concerned for my well being there was a tape made that night to show me what I was like. I have seen the tape. I have learned from it and I am back on my game. I thank God for the love and concern from my daughters. The tape was never meant to become public, but got into the hands of individuals who are not worthy of mentioning, who maliciously released the tape for their own self purpose. I hope that someone else will learn from the tape, as I have."

David Hasselhoff - Actor's 'broke blood alcohol record at rehab'

David Hasselhoff has revealed he set a record while being treated for alcoholism at the Betty Ford Clinic, "the highest blood alcohol figure ever recorded there."

The Baywatch star, seen in a home video drunkenly rolling around a Las Vegas hotel room and trying to eat a hamburger off the floor, says he started drinking hard-core in the summer of 2002.

"I had forgotten to take care of myself. When I was doing Baywatch and Knight Rider, my life had been planned, orderly. The hard times were between shows," he says in his autobiography.

The shocking hotel footage was filmed by his 16-year-old daughter Taylor-Ann, after her father asked her to video him drunk so he could "see what he is like."

Hasselhoff, 54, said during the filming of Baywatch, he wasn't romancing his hot co-stars or the groupies clustered around his trailer.

"I would drink the minibar," he writes, while his assistants "got all the girls."

The Hoff also claims the late Princess Diana flirted with him at a charity event — saying he looked good with his clothes on.

"Diana laughed, blushed and then looked coy. It wasn't my imagination — she was flirting with me."

He added: "She seemed to be alone and a bit lonely."

He also reveals Sandra Bullock and Paula Abdul both tested for the role of CJ Parker on the third season of Baywatch — the part that shot Pamela Anderson to stardom.

David Hasselhoff's Ex: Star's Drinking Ruined Their Marriage

October 06, 2008

The ex-wife of "Baywatch" star David Hasselhoff is spilling more of the beans about her former husband's wild drinking, likening his "disease" to cancer and claiming it destroyed their marriage.

Pamela Bach — who has dropped the actor's last name since the couple's messy divorce battle — tells London's Daily Mail that though she loves Hasselhoff, her ex's severe alcoholism wound up exhausting her after years of trying to cover for him.

"We were both living a lie but the biggest tragedy was that David loved the bottle more than me," Bach told the Mail.

In one June 2002 incident, when Bach said she thought her husband was at the Betty Ford rehab clinic for treatment, he shocked her with an intoxicated call from a hotel room.

The "Knight Rider" actor was apparently lying inebriated in front of an empty hotel minibar, but was somehow able to dial the number and send out a cry for help.

"I'm drunk and I think I'm dying," Bach told the Mail he said, before the phone went dead.

Bach says her heart sank.

"After years of drinking, he’d finally admitted he had a problem and had agreed to go into rehab," she remembered. "It had all been such a huge relief. But then I got that phone call."

She learned from the clinic that Hasselhoff had checked himself out and says she went to every local hospital to try to find him — until she did.

Later, she told the British newspaper, Bach learned her husband had consumed everything in the minibar before a maid found him slumped on the floor semi-conscious and partly naked. Police were called. Bach says she and Hasselhoff's team of handlers covered up the incident to protect his reputation — like so many times before.

"Had news leaked out, it would have destroyed the image he created for himself and the image I created for my friends and family," Bach told the Mail.

But in recent months, the details of the 80s star's battle with alcoholism have leaked out. Last year, a video was released of an extremely drunk Hasselhoff lying on the floor trying to eat a hamburger while one of his daughter's asks him if he's going to get help for his addiction.

Bach has been demonized as an opportunist who is seeking the actor's roughly $50 million fortune — an allegation she vehemently denies.

"I don’t want this to be an attack on David. I love him. I always have," she told the Mail. "He’s a good man. He’s tried desperately hard to get sober. But he’s an alcoholic. He has a disease, just like cancer. And just like cancer, it ate away at our family from the inside."
