Thirteen fatal crashes killed 15 people in Ohio, and more than 700 drivers were charged with driving under the influence over Labor Day weekend, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

Last year, 21 people were killed in fatal crashes in the four-day period, running from 12:01 a.m. Friday to midnight Monday.

Each year, 50,000 people in Ohio are convicted of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

There are 33,000 habitual offenders, who have received five or more DUI convictions in their lifetime, the state patrol reported.
