Brian Wilson - 'Beach Boys' Founder Advises Against Drug Use
9/17/2008
Brian Wilson isn't exactly condemning his drug-addled past, but he's not condoning it either.
The former Beach Boy mastermind calls the side effects of such substances as LSD "a bad thing," but tells Australia's "Sunday Herald Sun," quote, "the creative aspect of drugs is a good thing."
While acknowledging that using drugs to enhance creativity isn't "a wise thing to do," he explains, quote, "Drugs do inspire music -- there is a correlation between drugs and the inspiration to write music." However, Wilson admits that if he could go back in time and relive his past, he'd bypass the drugs.

The veteran rocker reflects on his past on his new album, "That Lucky Old Sun," which he's said is semi-autobiographical. He references the years he spent hidden away grappling with substance abuse and mental illness in the song "Midnight's Another Day."
