Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,

Thank you for your letter dated May 1, 2006 in response to the book I wrote and sent you entitled, “Once Life Matters: A New Beginning.” You stated you have not yet found the time to read it but I would like to ask you to take a few moments just to read Chapter 17 entitled “The B Side” found on pages 193-203. 

It should only take you five minutes to read this chapter but it could turn out to be the best five minutes you've ever spent in helping thousands of inmates locked up in the State of California’s prison system and saving the taxpayers of the great State of California millions of dollars each year. This chapter discusses my involvement in a drug treatment program in Palm Beach County Florida entitled the “Sheriff’s Drug Farm.”

I noticed in the news you recently flew to the National Football League’s owner’s meeting to pitch your idea of the Los Angeles area having two professional NFL football teams because you know it will be good for our state. I am asking you to spend a few minutes of your time now to help the people of our marvelous state decrease the rampant crime and recidivism rate.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Drug Farm program was established back in 1991. It is the second adult “boot camp” in the country that emphasizes faith-based drug and alcohol treatment along with a military type physical discipline element. The two work well together. So well, that the results of a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office study revealed that 88% of the inmates who completed this program have stayed clean and sober and were never re-arrested. I am sure you can agree with me that those are phenomenal results!

I would like to personally meet with you and some of your Department of Corrections staff to view a short 10-minute video produced describing the Drug Farm. I also have a Power Point presentation we could take a look at. I feel this type of program can work here in California and am willing to donate my time and energy to convince you and your staff of that fact. 

If what you see and hear makes sense to you, I would also like to escort you to Palm Beach County Florida to tour the Sheriff’s Drug Farm personally and watch the action live. I know it will change your perspective on prison reform.

I know the majority of voters in the State of California would feel very fortunate to have a governor on board for another four years who could reduce the high crime and recidivism rate by 88%. The money saved alone would be worth it.
