Inside
Journal®, available nationwide, is a newspaper for men and
women incarcerated in state and federal prisons and other penal
institutions in the United States.
History: Prison
Fellowship Ministries (PFM) began Inside Journal in late
1990 and publishes six issues per year. PFM is the nonprofit Christian
ministry founded by Charles
Colson, former aide to President Nixon. Colson was imprisoned
for a Watergate-related conviction in the 1970s.
Circulation: lnside Journal prints 390,000 copies of each issue. It
reaches 100 percent of the nation's state and federal prisons (2,250
prisons in all 50 states). Bulk subscriptions are sent to chaplains,
education departments, and libraries in the institutions for free
distribution to prisoners.
Editorial Formula: lnside Journal provides inspirational material
to help prisoners deal with incarceration, better prepare themselves for
release, and remain crime-free upon re-entry into society. It provides
spiritual information and helps build the church behind the walls.
